The fleshy root of Morinda officinalis with the woody core removed, sold as dark purplish-brown hollow segments known as ba jik flesh. Mildly sweet with a warm edge, it partners eucommia bark in pork-bone pots and gives the broth a subtle, warming depth.
Nature · warming Flavour · sweet、pungent Meridians · kidney、liver
In Cantonese food therapy it is a warming tonic for the kidneys and the lower back, traditionally boiled with eucommia bark and pork bones in the classic strengthening pot for tired backs.
Soups mostly use 巴戟肉, the flesh with the woody core already taken out. Just rinse it.
