Glehnia root
The slender chalk-white root of coastal glehnia, sold as straight dried sticks that snap cleanly. Faintly sweet with a light herbal edge, it is the standing partner of Solomon's seal in moistening pots, softening into the broth over a long boil.

Cautions: read first
- Not for a wind cold cough, the kind with thin watery white phlegm
- Take care if your spleen and stomach run cold and your stools are loose
- Traditionally held to clash with 藜蘆 (veratrum), so they are not used together

Soak and rinse. It stands up to long boiling.
