祛風散寒通竅止痛消腫排膿燥濕止帶美顏(民間美白之說)

The chalky white root of Dahurian angelica, sold as strongly aromatic slices with a scent between celery and camphor. One of the wind-dispelling trio for fish-head soup, a couple of slices perfume the broth and offset any muddiness in the fish.

Traditional food therapy

In Cantonese food therapy it is simmered with chuanxiong and tin ma in fish-head pots, traditionally used to dispel wind-cold, open the nasal passages and ease wind-type brow discomfort; folk use also links it to a fair complexion.

Cautions — read first

  • Not for yin deficiency with heat in the blood
  • People who run dry and hot should drink little of this kind of warming soup
